For Captain Mike Barats, fishing isn't a weekend hobby. It has been part of his life for more than four decades.
As a USCG-licensed captain, Mike has spent years learning the waters off Northern California and developing an intimate understanding of Bodega Bay's seasons, conditions and fisheries.
His specialty is Chinook salmon.
But what keeps customers coming back isn't simply what they catch.
It's the experience.
Mike welcomes experienced anglers, beginners, families and visitors traveling from across the country. His approach is straightforward: work hard, fish smart, keep people safe and make sure everyone aboard has a day worth remembering.

THE BOAT

A great day on the water starts with an experienced captain, but the boat matters too.
Greylight Salmon Fishing operates aboard a 26-foot Sea Sport pilothouse, built for the conditions of the Pacific and designed to give anglers a comfortable, capable platform for a full day of fishing.
Originally built in 2010 and restored in 2025, the boat combines a spacious fishing deck with the protection of an enclosed cabin, giving guests a place to get out of the wind and weather when needed. Powered by a 260 HP Volvo engine with a cruising capability of up to 30 knots, it's equipped to get you from Bodega Bay to the fishing grounds safely and efficiently.
Once the fishing starts, there's plenty of room to work. Greylight provides the rods, reels and tackle needed for the day's trip, along with onboard storage for your catch.

Depending on the season, these waters offer opportunities for Chinook salmon, rockfish, lingcod and offshore tuna along with the possibility of seeing whales, sea lions, seabirds and other Pacific wildlife along the way.

ROCKFISH & LINGCOD
Fast action, beautiful coastline and some of the best table fare the Pacific has to offer make rockfish and lingcod trips a favorite for both experienced anglers and newcomers.
Depending on conditions and regulations, California halibut may also be targeted by request as part of select trips.
Greylight does not advertise a separate halibut charter.

When seasonal conditions line up, offshore tuna fishing offers an entirely different Bodega Bay adventure.
These trips take anglers farther offshore in pursuit of powerful tuna and can provide some of the most exciting fishing of the season.
